Do humans have an advantage over AI?


For thousands of years, we humans have perfected the art of writing, but is it time to pass the pencil to the machines? In an era where technological advancements are measured in days rather than years, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) has left many industries coping with human relevance. 


Many professions are endangered, but most of all are jobs you work on your PC or laptop, office jobs.


One sector that is in fear of becoming obsolete is content writing. Some other careers AI threatens are graphic design, data entry, and basic customer service roles, but we are here to talk about content writing. As AI writing tools become more sophisticated, the question remains: do human writers hold an advantage over their machine counterparts, or are they in jeopardy of being overshadowed by the efficiency and capabilities of AI-generated content? This article closely examines the relationship between human writers and AI, exploring what we as humans bring to the table and whether our jobs are genuinely at risk.


To compare human writers to AI, we must first understand how artificial intelligence works, and by work, I mean writes. 



Understanding AI Writing Tools


AI writing tools like ChatGPT, ClickUP, Chatsonic, Writesonic, etc., have evolved significantly in recent years. These tools can analyze large amounts of data, learn patterns, and generate contextually relevant content. Oh, did I mention they do it incredibly fast? AI writing tools can generate content in seconds; no human writer can compete with that. 


AI writing tools can produce text efficiently, from articles and blog posts to marketing and product descriptions. However, the critical question remains: can they genuinely replace the creativity, experience, and emotional notes natural in human writing?

Although AI tools have access to unlimited information on the World Wide Web, they lack the creativity of human writers. AI can instantly gather all the information needed, delivering you a blog of 1000 words in seconds. But you will have a blog that is written by something that does not have a personal voice or experience.


You will get only hardcore facts, one sentence after the other. Another thing to remember is that AI writes what you request from it, meaning you still have to come up with the subject and guidelines. 

The AI is designed and programmed to write as closely as possible to the human writer. Upon asking a particular AI tool (ChatGPT) to give me an explanation of its writing process, I received the following message: 

“When I generate an article or any other piece of content, the process involves understanding the given prompt or topic and using patterns learned during training to produce coherent and contextually relevant text.” 


Further research led me to conclude that ChatGPT follows my thought process when writing a new article. 


We both start by exploring the topic, which means identifying keywords and researching the subject. Some topics are familiar, and others require lots of research.


The next step is creating the basic outline of the article. We do this by deciding the intro, main points, subheadings, and conclusion.


Now, the writing starts, and slowly, the article begins to take shape. We both use the information gathered before and transform it into an article.


When the article is written, it is time to read it thoroughly so it can be edited and checked for consistency. Sometimes, things look perfect while writing, but once the article is complete, some sentences must be clarified and rewritten.


Before the article can be considered complete, it must be rechecked for grammatical errors because those things just love to slip by. 


The Strengths of Human Writers

On the other hand, human writers take some time to finish the article, but you get 100% unique content written by somebody with experience and a personal touch. Knowledge is acquired through practice and lots of writing. Feedback is what every writer needs and fears simultaneously, but it is essential to help us evolve. 


Creativity and Originality


One of the primary advantages human writers possess over AI is the ability to infuse creativity and originality into their work. While AI can mimic patterns and generate content based on existing data, it often lacks the spark of innovation and the ability to think outside the predefined boundaries.


Human writers draw from personal experiences, emotions, and diverse perspectives, thus creating unique and compelling texts that resonate with readers on a deeper level.


Emotional Intelligence


Humans are emotional creatures, and with emotions, we create. Understanding emotions is what sets us apart from AI. We can produce content that evokes humor, empathy, anger, calmness, etc., making our connection to the audience more sincere. We can write from our heart, so to speak. Whether telling a compelling story or crafting a persuasive argument, we use emotions to ensure our story has an impact. 


Writing with emotions is something that an AI will have a tough time achieving. Right now, it is undoubtedly impossible. Being able to write with emotions reassures us that content writing is here to stay. 

Adaptability and Contextual Understanding


AI writing tools rely on data and patterns, often needing help to adapt to rapidly changing contexts or understand the subtle distinctions of language. On the other hand, human writers can adjust their writing style to different audiences, industries, or cultural contexts. This adaptability is crucial, especially in content creation, where tailoring the message to a specific audience is most important. 

One article can be written in many ways, and a human writer, at least a good one, knows how to do it. Conversely, AI can not, as it will always write an informative article with crucial facts. Sometimes, the article needs to be easy to read; other times, it needs to be catchy, or it needs to be completely original. Humans can see the story from different perspectives, but AI can do it only in the way it is programmed.


Human writers can engage in critical thinking and offer subjective viewpoints. While AI can analyze data objectively, it may struggle to provide a subjective perspective or evaluate complex ideas. Humans add depth to content by incorporating their unique opinions, interpretations, and insights, encouraging a more prosperous and diverse story.


Continuous Growth and Building Connections 


Human writers engage in continuous learning and personal growth, refining our skills. We learn from feedback and adapt to evolving trends. While AI can learn from data patterns, it lacks the capacity for self-improvement and personal development.


The journey of a human writer involves constant evolution and perfecting the craft.


Building genuine connections with an audience is the definition of a writer. Readers often seek authenticity, relatability, and connection in their content. Human writers can draw from personal experiences, share anecdotes, and establish a rapport with their audience that goes beyond the capabilities of AI. This human touch fosters a sense of trust and loyalty, which is essential in fields like marketing and brand storytelling.

The Potential Threat to Human Writers


While the advantages of human writers are evident, the rapid advancement of AI writing tools raises concerns about the future of human content writing. Some argue that AI may automate routine writing tasks as it becomes more sophisticated, leaving human writers at risk of redundancy. However, a closer look reveals that the relationship between humans and AI in content writing is more collaborative than antagonistic.


The Collaborative Future: Humans and AI Working Together


In the future, human writers and AI will likely collaborate harmoniously. AI can handle repetitive tasks, generate data-driven insights, and assist with initial content drafting. At the same time, human writers contribute their creativity, emotional intelligence, and unique perspectives to refine and elevate the final output. This collaboration allows for increased efficiency and productivity without sacrificing the qualities that make human writing distinctive.


In other words, you can rely on AI to gather the information (it is advised that you check it, just in case), and you can do creative writing. AI programs can also help give you a draft of the content, but it is up to you to make the story unique. Another thing that AI excels in is giving you alternate words or synonyms. 


Instead of battling AI, we should embrace its benefits and use it to do our jobs better. Of course, I don’t mean to use an AI to write you an entire article you can copy-paste and put your name at the bottom.


Being a content writer is a way to express yourself creatively and should remain that way. 


My point is that the presence of AI does not make human content writing a thing of the past; on the contrary, now, more than ever, content written by humans is getting more appreciated. Who knows what the future has stored for us, but at the moment, I am not afraid that an artificial intelligence writing program can replace me or any other content writer. 


What better way to end an article about humans vs. AI than to let a program write the conclusion? I showed my article to ChatGPT and asked it to give me a conclusion on the subject, and below, you will find its words, which, in a way, are only a reflection of my article.
